Dylan Ever spins stories out of folklore and fables, interweaving critters, creatures, and confused twenty-somethings. In her art she loves exploring combinations of music, visuals, and writing, and can often be found plucking at a guitar, building spaceship-esque synthesizers, or out writing poetry for passersby on her typewriter. She is currently at work on her MFA in Creative Writing at Virginia Tech and holds a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music.
a word with wings
dylan ever
cupping in my hands
a gentle thing
a word with wings
soft & glistening
light as a shimmer
of air between teeth
invisible
life giving
breathed & released
i lift my palm
urge the creature, fly
but not before i imbue
this creature’s life
with my own
it will not take this journey alone
it like the seeds
of a dandelion
floats
on the draft of my breath
onto the next soul
and if i had just
one
word
left
i
would gift it
to you
